I’m keeping this week’s garden post short and sweet. I’m still recovering from last week’s sewing frenzy.
So a (partial) garden tour in pictures. I have the hardest time making myself take ‘big picture’ photos. I love capturing ‘scenes’ or the amazing details of individual plants. One day I’ll just stand back and try and take pictures of the whole garden at once. It’s rather large and sprawling and extends into our front yard area. Oh, and I titled each photo for those of you who want to know what the plants are:
(fig tree)
(raspberries)
(flowering kale for seed collection)
(broccoli)
(a volunteer reseeded green from our spicy chinese stirfry mix, not mustard, what is it?)
(schisandra vine)
(day lilly buds from a foraged day lily transplanted into our garden)
(salsify, a volunteer ‘weed’ and edible root vegetable we actively reseed)
(lemon verbena)
(Audrey eating comfrey blossoms under the pear tree with raised beds and patio behind her)
(same only here you can see wine barrels full of mint behind her as well)
(the boys planting seedlings next to the currant bushes and herbs, horseradish in front pot, tangerine and fig and raspberries, with strawberries planted underneath, behind them)
(succulents with California poppies)
(succulents with California poppies)
(aloe vera)
(iris)
(iris)
(pea tendrils)
(canoe pea blossoms)
(lavender buds)
(pear tree with herbs and flowers, butterfly bush behind and grapevines along the fence)
(Audrey gardening between the pear tree and the double-dug swales and lower berry and vegetable beds)
(Gray between the apple and pear tree in the kids area, soon to hold a rabbit hutch! Audrey’s herb garden that she’s planning and a bigger sandbox)
(Aaron planting amongst the black currant bushes)
(Aaron with yarrow and lavender and currants behind him)
{linking up with Mental Chew for How Does Your Garden Grow?}

You have a lovely garden and a lovely family tending it!
Thanks! They make me happy.
Wow I am mega jealous of your sprawling garden and more so of your kids having such an awesome free-range area to grow up in. So beautiful!
What a beautiful post Amber! From the peas to your Littles, just precious. As a reader, I really get the feeling of your love for this space and it’s role in your family. I love Sophie’s comment about “free-range kids”. I am going to play with that one.
Oh, thanks! Never sure what exactly is coming through with my photos. I just take them and post the ones I like. It is loved though! And it does play a huge role in our lives. First thing after breakfast, if we aren’t heading out into the woods or fields, the kids are straight out the back door into the garden.
You give me hope!! One day I hope to have our garden as lush and green. Beautiful pics, as always.
I’m sure you will. You guys are putting so much work and love into it. It just takes a couple years to fill out a bit.
Oh my, how lovely!!! The trees are just starting to come to life up here, can’t wait for more green and colour in our gardens.
Must be so different gardening in a northern climate…we’re a bit soft over here. Green all year.
you and your family have created such a gorgeous space here! when we are able to buy a bigger piece of property this is what i aspire my yard to look like, fabulous! ps- i see all your hard work last week paid off with a featured spot on the KCWC wrap up photos :)
Yeah. That was a nice surprise!
Loved the tour….and the way the whole family “freei-ranges”!! Napa weather really allows a wide range of goodies, doesn’t it?
