I’ve really been feeling the bloomer love recently. And I’ve been in need of some comfy, yet cute, shorts to sleep in during the hotter months. Since Shorts on the Line sew along is under way (you still have time to sew some shorts and enter!) I figured the timing was perfect to sew up some bloomers for myself.
I used the adorable and free (!!) Madeleine mini bloomers pattern by Colette Patterns. This pattern is simple to sew and the fit is largely adjustable due to the elastic and ribbon casing. I cut out a medium size for the first one since they stated their patterns run small, but I decided to cut out a small size for the next two and found the fit to be better (less ‘poofy’) in the smaller size. I used very light-weight fabrics as suggested by the pattern: a turquoise cotton gauze with black ribbon, (and not quite finished yet) an ice blue voile with grey ribbon, and a rose voile with black ribbon. I’ll show you the other pairs when I finish them up.
Since these are cut extremely low on top and extremely short on bottom, I’m not going to model them for you. Nope, I’m not. You’ll just have to take my word and Audrey’s that they’re ‘really cute’. Oh, and they definitely got Aaron’s approval too ;)
This is the last week of the Shorts on the Line sew along. Head on over to the Flickr group page and check out everyone’s amazing shorts!

Those are really, really cute! I love the bows!! I am visiting through Nicole’s link up, feel free to stop by to see my knitting! Loving you blog too, by the way. :)
Ha! They are really cute and I’m sure they do have Aaron’s approval ;) I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to model them….they are just a little short….Ahem. They do look perfect for sleeping in though.
No doubt they got Aaron’s approval! So HOT! I love these, I can’t wait to see the second pair! You are on a shorts roll!
These are awesome! So you must have modeled them for him, huh!?! ;) Too funny!! I’m sure he did like them! You are rockin’ this sew along!
I just LOVE to visit your blog you create such cute sewing projects. These are to die for adorable!! I might have to make a pair of the little girl bloomers that you made…did you follow a pattern or just make it up off the top of your head. I will defiantly be using the free pattern to make a pair…or two for myself as well…it looks like a quick project!!
Thanks! I used the bubble short pattern from Ottobre magazine summer ’12 issue. But I didn’t elasticize the bottoms. I shortened the leg length a little, gathered them and added a trim instead, then the lace. They’re very similar to the Oliver + S puppet show shorts pattern, though, so you could also use that.
Oh thank you so much I so excited about the Oliver + S pattern.
P.S. I love how you change pattern to make them your own..very clever indeed!!
absolutely adorable!!! ahhhhhh to have the figure to wear them!!!
These are so adorable, and what a perfect sewing project for summer!
Those are adorable and I bet they got Aaron’s approval :)
