So I completed the other two pairs of bloomers (details from last week here). The sizing was better with these pairs and they’re great for sleeping in, but I have to admit that my favorite is the first pair. That teal cotton gauze is just the most comfortable fabric! I bought it on clearance for $2 a yard several months ago thinking I’d make a skirt for Audrey or something. It’s not the kind of material I’d pick out for myself. It calls to mind too many super-long, gathered, hippie skirts, which if you know me, is entirely not my style. Some people can rock that look. Not me. But now I’m looking at cotton gauze in a totally new way. I’m thinking a camisole out of it would also be really cute, and comfy. Did I mention this fabric is comfy?
In the middle of sewing bloomers I got a bit distracted by doll clothes. Some of you might remember that I had planned on sewing ‘Alice’ a new dress months ago. Audrey had picked out the fabric and my mother-in-law, who’d met us at the fabric store, kindly bought it for her. Yeah…I didn’t get around to it until now. Alice says she doesn’t mind. And why would she? My mom sewed her a whole beautiful wardrobe a couple of years ago when she was first given to her mommy. But a new dress now and then is always nice.
Alice loves it. I caught her out picking flowers and daydreaming in it. Hmm…sometimes she reminds me of her mama. It’s also a big hit with the kids. I knew Audrey would like it since she picked out the fabric and ok’d the pattern. But Gray is just thrilled to bits with Alice’s new outfit. He keeps carrying her around, hugging her tight with a big smile on his face and then showing us the pretty dress. I love that he likes the doll dress as much as he does power tools and loud rock music. Which is to say, a lot.
I used Fig & Me’s dress tutorial. It was a breeze to follow and the results are so sweet. I’ll definitely be using the pattern again to sew more doll dresses in the future. I also now have the urge to sew a little wool coat for Alice in time for cool fall weather. And a little hood. Oh dear, this could get a bit out of hand…

Amber! The bloomers and doll dress are amazing. Alice looks like she found the perfect spot in the garden to daydream in her new fashions.
I just recently made a doll for my daughter’s first birthday. The doll is currently wearing old baby clothes. Thanks for linking to the tutorial for the doll dress… I think I’ll be making a few of those.
Love that little dress for Alice, too cute!
How could she not love it???? The blue matches her eyes–exactly!! and the pink the color of her little mouth!!! She looks lovely in it!! (Audrey has mighty good taste!!!)
i bet a pair of pants would be great out of that fabric too, especially for the cooler summer evenings. and how can you resist your urge to make a pint sized wool coat?! which gets me thinking a toddler sized upcycled wool sweater coat should go on my list of things to make :)
I really like those bloomers you’ve shared lately and the dolldress is just adorable
So adorable! I can’t get enough of those bloomers!
Alice does look just like her mama. She looks right at home among the flowers. Great job with the dress! Can’t wait to see the coat, too. :)
cute! the doll dress is sweet too!
as a kid i loved to sew dresses for dolls. i’ve not done so ever since, but i’m sure when my niece gets to the age where she plays with dolls my hobby will experience a revival ;)
Sweet. I, too was working on a little doll dress yesterday. I’m gifting Zinnia with a waldorf inspired doll when she meets her new baby brother and this doll is going to need a few dresses! Loving your bloomers too.
