As usual, I have several sewing projects in the works.
I have even more ideas up on the inspiration board. Glass jar candle holders decorated with fabric scraps. Some linen lavender sachets. Embroidered scarves. That pile below the board is a dress of Audrey’s that needs ironing and a shirt I finished for myself and keep meaning to get around to photographing. I’ll share it soon. And a stack of patterns. My fall kids sewing plans. Audrey’s winter coat needs to start making it’s way to the top of the list.
The flannels have come out in the hopes of making a few new pairs of warm jammies before our camping trip next week. Gray refuses to keep any covers on while he’s sleeping so I’m thinking I’ll make his pants reversible and extra-thick.
And that cheerful yellow knit is in process of becoming pj’s for Audrey and for Alice, her doll. Alice’s are done. Audrey’s shirt is finished, now just the pants. Then I’ll show you all the adorable-ness.
And finally we have my newest pile of ‘maybe for a quilt’. I’ve made one crib sized quilt. And yet I’m often thinking about making quilts. The idea appeals to me. And honestly we need a couple more warm bed covers during the cold season. I set out piles of fabric and sometimes even start cutting, but then I get scared. Such a large, long project to mess up. I’m thinking these pop colors would look striking as a quilt but I’m not exactly sure how to put them together. Log cabin? Strips? You see, I don’t know what I’m doing. Right now I’m thinking log cabin blocks with white sashing around each one. I know I could sew that, just not sure it would look right. What do you think?

I really need to get back to sewing…I haven’t done any in ages, other than a button here and a seam there. I’m like you in that I love the idea of a quilt, just not sure when I’d do it….back to that “I need another hobby” thing…NOT! The kicking blankets off is a little boy thing. Both of mine did it. They out grew it but for years wore the footie pj’s.
Yeah, I forgot to add that soft non-slip booties are on the list too. He hates footie pj’s
I’ve got flannel and some actually cute thick knit from Joann’s of all places waiting to become jammies too! And I still want to make myself a tank top, I can always put a sweater over it. And then there is a stack of t shirts waiting to become toddler raglans and boxer briefs. Geez, I need to get off the computer and get sewing! I love the fabrics you chose for your quilt. I know zero about quilting but Rachael (imagine gnats) and Jessica (a little grey) would know just what to do!
Would love to see how to do the boxer briefs! Do you have a pattern?
Not sure exactly what you’re referring to. The flannel pj’s? Those I just trace from pants that fit them. Ottobre had a cute boxer pattern a few issues ago. Maybe spring ’12, I think?
Yeah for lots of sewing projects! I’ve been wanting to sew a few tank tops for myself but the first one ended up all weird under the arm pits so I have to adjust the pattern. I look forward to seeing yours!
I am right there with you about quilting. I made the boy a crib quilt from his dad’s “going to goodwill” dress shirts. Simple squares and straight line quilting. Really wanted to make a quilt of vintage sheets, cut into triangles for the girl, even cut a jillion of them, and am now too intimidated. And have moved on to red for bedding in her room. Pastels just don’t fit her personality. She has a “gotta wear sunglasses” bright shade of yellow on her walls. Her choice. :)
How old is Gray again? Ben is just like him with regards to the blankets. We recover him a few times before we go to bed and he’s out again. Won’t keep socks on. Luckily, not an issue right now, since it’s still in the 90′s all day here, bummer. :( I want fall!
Reece is just the same at night, kicks all the covers off him (and me). When we were camping a few weeks ago one night was really cold, only 6 or 7 degrees. Even then the sleeping bag was kicked off. I was searching for a toque for my head and he was kicking the covers off.
I wish I could help on the quilt, I would love to make one, just haven’t the courage to start yet…maybe one day.
He! That’s exactly what I’m afraid of. I’m planning on taking lots and lots of blankets in the hopes that we can each have one and not have to share. And I’ll just bundle him up in woolies and flannel and let him lay on top.
i feel the same about quilting. i would love to do some but it makes me nervous. i am afraid i would start and never finish such a large project. i think it will be on my list of things to do for when i get older for some time yet.
can i ask what is that blue dress in the photo on your inspiration board? i pinned one similar on pinterest last week. it looks just the kind of thing i would wear. is it a pattern?
happy sewing!
i jumped into quilting over the winter in a creative scramble… had big plans to start selling them, ha! i made four then tucked that scramble on the back burner. they are time consuming, but i really loved making them. i did full cloth quilts, baby sized. had a ball at the quilt shop and made each quilt out of one really awesome piece of fabric. no piecing. straight quilting on the diagnal. my favorite part was putting them through the wash when they were finished- just something so rewarding at the feel of a quilt. by keeping everything really simple i was able to over ride my anxiety of quilting :) ps- can’t wait to hear about your camping trip!
That’s a great idea! So simple and yet then they have the feel of a quilt. One day I’ll get brave enough to do a full sized one.
